Porcelain Crowns

Dentist near Placerville CA Provides Protective Cover for Decayed and Damaged Teeth with Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns have the ability to cover the entire visible portion of the tooth, as opposed to fillings which only cover a specific section. In doing so, the porcelain crown now acts as the tooth’s new, protective outer surface. The reason for a dental crown is if a patient has a broken or decayed tooth that is beyond repair with fillings or other dental options. With the porcelain crown, we’re providing a protective shell around the damaged tooth in order to strengthen it and improve the appearance of the tooth, as well as the rest of your smile. The crowns can also help improve and restore the tooth to its original shape. While there are different kinds of materials used, most common crowns usually have a mixture of porcelain in them so it’ll give them a natural look.

How It’s Done
During your first visit, Dr. Nolan will reshape the tooth and take impressions of your teeth to properly create the crowns. Mentioned before, a portion of your tooth will have to be removed in order for the crown to fit properly on top. After reshaping is done, a special material will be used to create an impression. The impression will be sent to a local dental laboratory to be made into a permanent crown. While the crown is being made, Dr. Nolan will provide you with a temporary crown to cover your tooth in between the visits.

Your next visit will include Dr. Nolan removing the temporary crown and fit in the new, permanent one. Before it is officially cemented into place, we will ensure that the crown fits comfortably and feels and looks natural to match the color of your teeth.
