Restore Your Smile with Dental Bridges in Lincoln CA

If you’re missing one tooth or multiple teeth, your general dentist in Lincoln CA gives patients the ability to receive dental bridges. A dental bridge is a false tooth (or teeth) that’s used to fill the empty space. When a tooth is missing, your dental health could be in danger! This not only makes this area vulnerable when you eat and drink, but will also cause your teeth to shift and misalign due to the lack of the previous supporting tooth. This will also change your bite which can become painful. With the help of dental bridges, a false tooth is placed with the help of two anchors that are fused to the surrounding teeth in order to correct your bite.

There are three types of dental bridges that are commonly used in today’s dentistry:

  • Traditional fixed bridge: This is the most common type of bridge that’s given to patients. This is where the porcelain crowns are placed over the surrounding teeth in order to act as anchors to help the false tooth stay in place. The false tooth is either made out of ceramics or porcelain fused to metal. The bridge is fused to the surrounding teeth to stay stable and strong!
  • Cantilever bridge: This bridge is used when there is only one tooth acting as a support. They’re typically used in the areas of your mouth that don’t experience intense chewing, like the front of your teeth.
  • Resin-bonded bridge: With resin-bonded bridges, there are metal bands that are bonded to the surrounding teeth with resin to hold the false tooth in place. This is another kind of bridge that’s typically used for teeth that don’t experience too much stress, like the front teeth.

How It’s Done
For the dental bridges to be fully placed, a patient usually visits our office a minimum of two times. During the first visit, the surrounding teeth are prepared to be fitted with a crown. This can include filing down the tooth so your Lincoln CA dentist can properly fit the crown over it. After, an impression of your teeth is taken that’s sent to a dental laboratory in order to prepare the bridge and the crowns. Until that’s finished, we will fit your teeth with a temporary bridge in order to protect the area while we wait for the laboratory to be finished.

At your second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and replaced with your brand new bridge from the dental lab. It’s fitted and adjusted, but there may need to be multiple visits scheduled to check and adjust the fit. Call our office today at (916) 645-1138 to schedule an appointment or consultation.
